Sianna Sherman is an internationally recognized Anusara® yoga teacher who delights in sharing her teachings with poetry, stories and expressive insight. Sianna's parents and sister have been her life-long inspirations because they embody the generosity and graciousness of love that resides in a wide-open heart. In 1990, Sianna began traveling the world to study yoga after coming to the realization that the path of medical school was not her highest calling. It was her heart's longing for true self-discovery that moved her in the direction of yoga. Her travels then spanned the continents as she delved with fervor into the richness of the traditions of yoga and the healing arts. In 1993, while traveling through India, a series of dreams guided her to Gurudev Siddha Peeth, the ashram of the Siddha Yoga lineage with Gurumayi Chidvilasananda. It was here that Sianna first encountered the more formal teachings of Tantra and her whole being was drenched in sacred remembrance.

In 1995, Sianna had the exquisite blessing of meeting her teacher John Friend who would later found the system of yoga called Anusara® yoga on August 15, 1997. Anusara means to "step into the currents of the heart" and "to align with the flow of Shakti". She apprenticed John from 1999 to 2003 and continues to be near him as often as possible. From the first moment of being in John's presence, Sianna knew she had found her teacher and that the currents of Grace had guided her to this momentous occasion. Her studies catapulted to a whole new level under the tutelage of John, as he gathered her under her wings and encouraged her to fly into the golden realms of consciousness and bliss. During these sacred years, Sianna became utterly devoted to the Tantric tradition and found her home in the tradition of Anusara® yoga. She bows humbly and fully to all her teachers along the way who have bestowed upon her the jewels of their wisdom. Gurumayi Chidvilasananda initiated her entire being into the living flames of Tantra and this opened endless gateways within for the evolution of her studies and the ignited path of the yogini. Douglas Brooks became her intrepid guide as she stepped into the rushing river of Grace pouring through the lineages of Tantra. His teaching welcomes the full circle of the rasas as the invitation of yoga, and he continually inspires her with visionary perspective that insists upon true empowerment. Paul Muller-Ortega brings to light the practice of meditation and the transformation of her own blue throat in the infinite and roaring realms of embodiment. His unwavering commitment to meditation is a continual catalyst for Sianna to take refuge in the inner practices of yoga. Hareesh Wallis expands her understanding and love of the path exponentially with luminous awareness and pure devotion for the benefit of all beings. All of her teachers are a source of transmission for Sianna that is incomparable and indefatigable, and she honors them with the highest reverence.

In addition to the path of Anusara® yoga and Tantra, Sianna's influences are vast, including many herbal apprenticeships, story-telling, music, dance, walking the priestess path, plant spirit medicine, martial arts, Thai massage, bodywork, Acro Yoga, hula hooping, poetry and shamanism. In the tradition of hatha yoga, two bright stars that Sianna always remembers with great love include: Richard Freeman who brought to life for Sianna the living inner world through metaphor and presence, and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois whose smile and pure joy will always live in the altar of her heart. Among her female influences in the folkloric ways of women, Sianna offers her blessings to the following teachers: Gina Mcgarry, Jahanara Mangus, Mara Levin, Cascade Andersen Geller, Susun Weed, Rosemary Gladstar, Holly Hamilton and Brenda Rose Villa.  To the oral traditions of story-telling, indigenous to the Native American and Celtic lineages, she wishes to thank Martin Prechtel and John O'Donohue. To her Open to Grace family that keeps her humming and alive in the most glowing and vibrant way, she offers her never-ending praise and adulation. And to the perfect flow of the great Maha Shakti who guides her every step of the way and ushered her forth to the most magical love with Theo, she bows in full praam. Sianna offers an eternal garland of never-fading, always fragrant lotus flowers to the Divine Mother.
